About
Dutch saxophonist Candy Dulfer is gearing up to hit the road once again, bringing her sensational band and her unique brand of “funky stuff” to audiences worldwide. After the challenges of 2020 and 2021, she’s eager to perform live, introduce her fans to new songs, and share the healing power of music.
It’s been more than 30 years since Candy Dulfer made her mark in the music world. She rose to fame through high-profile collaborations with artists like Dave Stewart, producing the worldwide number 1 hit “Lily Was Here,” and, of course, the legendary Prince. It was Prince who famously quipped, “When I want sax, I call Candy,” in the “Partyman” video, propelling her into the global spotlight. Her collaboration with Prince continued through the years, encompassing studio sessions, TV show appearances, Grammy Awards performances, and extensive concert tours, including joining Prince’s NPG band as a permanent member during his record-breaking ‘Musicology’ tour and album.
While Candy has worked with some of the biggest names in music, including Van Morrison, Maceo Parker, Sheila E., Mavis Staples, and many more, she also dedicated herself to her solo career. She formed her band at the age of 13, starting an impressive journey that took her all over the world. Her first solo album, “Saxuality,” earned her a Grammy Award nomination. Her solo albums collectively sold over 2.5 million copies worldwide, and she achieved several number 1 hits in the USA. She continued to perform globally and took part in the annual sold-out concerts at the Amsterdam Ziggo Dome with Dutch supergroup Ladies of Soul. Additionally, Candy is an ambassador for the Dutch ALS Foundation.
The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted her plans, and, like many others, she found herself at home for an extended period, a rarity in her 35+ years of global touring. However, this pause allowed her to explore new creative avenues. Candy is known for reinventing herself, and these challenging times weren’t going to stop her from bringing music to the world in new ways. She initiated the “Music in My Kitchen Challenge,” performing online from her home, including a unique virtual reunion with Dave Stewart to perform the classic track “Lily Was Here.” She also launched “Club Dauphine TV,” a weekly online show featuring her playing well-known covers with famous Dutch guest stars.
Candy signed a new record deal with Mascot Label Group and is working on a new album, scheduled for release in 2022, including a track with Nile Rodgers from Chic. To entertain smaller audiences between lockdowns, she organized a sold-out theater tour in the Netherlands called “Sax, Candy & Rock-‘n-Roll.” The show combined live music, intimate storytelling, and stand-up comedy, all based on her remarkable adventures with music’s biggest stars. Candy also continued to host and produce a weekly 2-hour primetime radio show on Sublime FM.
Candy is currently on tour with her sensational new band and her incredible new album, “We Never Stop.“
